— And Women Are Loving the Results
At Pillow Talk Parties, we are committed to empowering women with real information, real solutions, and real conversations about their bodies. Today, we’re excited to share fascinating new research that shines a light on a topic many women have questions about — but rarely get answers to.
A new study from the Kinsey Institute surveyed over 1,100 women ages 40–65 and discovered something incredibly important:
Self-pleasure can be a highly effective tool for easing menopause symptoms.
Yes — masturbation is more than pleasure. It’s wellness.
What the Study Found
Women who regularly masturbated — especially using a clitoral stimulation device like a Vibrator or Air Pulse Stimulator used in this study — reported improvements in:
Mood (43%)
Sleep (13%)
Desire & pleasure (13%)
Lubrication (11%)
Pain or hot flashes (10%)
During the structured toy-use phase of the study, 92.9% of women experienced at least one symptom less frequently. Many reported feeling less tired, less anxious, fewer mood swings, fewer hot flashes, and even fewer headaches.
By the end of the study, the number of women describing their symptoms as very or extremely bothersome dropped dramatically — from 27% to 17%.
Why Does This Work?
Researchers point to two major reasons:
1. The “feel-good” neurochemical response: Orgasm releases oxytocin and endorphins, which may help with pain relief, mood support, and better sleep.
2. Increased vagal nerve activity: Clitoral stimulation can activate the vagus nerve linked to improved mood, stress response, and sleep quality.
Women who reached orgasm more consistently saw the strongest benefits.
What Women Are Saying
Two-thirds of perimenopausal women said they would use masturbation more often if they knew it could ease symptoms. Over half said they would do it if a healthcare provider recommended it — showing just how little this is talked about.
As one of the researchers explained:
“Self-pleasure is self-care during the menopause transition.”
We couldn’t agree more.
An Underserved Group with Real Needs
This research also highlights something we see every day at Pillow Talk Parties:
Millions of women are looking for real, trustworthy information about intimacy, desire, dryness, pain, and emotional changes during menopause — but aren’t getting the support they need from traditional healthcare.
Women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond aren’t staying quiet anymore. They’re researching, discussing, seeking solutions, and taking charge of their sexual wellness.
